Abstract

This article analyses the psychotherapeutic training received by specialty students during the years of psychiatric residency. The author starts from a short historical background which reports the main events leading to the establishment of the Psychiatric School of Medicine in Italy. The paper then focuses on the current scenario by presenting the data collected from a survey performed among 95 Italian residency students. The results denounce a relevant absence of psychotherapeutic training during the years of specialty despite the widespread and significant demand of young psychiatrists.
